Our story

Quiz Maker evolution from a 2004 garage project into a global quiz platform
From a Sydney garage to a global CDN serving 19 countries.

In 2004, long before mobile apps, social media or viral content ruled the web, Martyn Stephens and Michael Hodge founded Quiz Maker from a garage in Sydney. Martyn wrote the original platform, an online surveying tool that became the foundation of what is now Quiz Maker. Two decades later, our head office sits on the Innovation Campus at the University of Wollongong in regional New South Wales.

We landed our first enterprise customers in our first year of operation. Nissan deployed the platform across more than 500 locations to capture customer and dealer feedback at scale. The New South Wales State Government used it to run citizen-facing surveys. Both became long-running customers. Over the next two decades, our software has also been used by editorial teams at Nature and The New York Times, by multiple Fortune 500 companies, and by training, marketing and HR teams at more than 5,000 brands. Quizzes built on the platform have been answered by over 107 million people worldwide.

Martyn co-founded Quiz Maker in 2004 and wrote the original platform. He brings extensive experience in server-side coding, database design and full-stack engineering, and remains the primary architect of the technology that powers Quiz Maker today. From the first online surveying tool to the global CDN serving 19 countries, the platform's underlying infrastructure has been Martyn's work for two decades.

Michael Hodge

Founder, Quiz Maker

Michael co-founded Quiz Maker in 2004 alongside Martyn Stephens and has led the company ever since. He holds dual degrees in Computer Science and Psychology from the University of Wollongong, a combination that shapes his work as a frontend specialist and underpins Quiz Maker's evidence-based approach to product development. Michael also leads the company's strategic marketing and customer-led growth, guided by two decades of decisions grounded in what real user data actually shows rather than what feels right.
