The Internet Saved My Life
Keith and his family live on a horse farm in Texas. They breed and raise top-quality horses that many people want to buy. They moved to the country, from New York, five years ago where Keith used to work as the chef of one of the best restaurants. He was very well known for his culinary skills, and used to have his own television show. He enjoys living on the farm, but misses cooking and doing his show. Keith is a very down-to earth person and he likes deal with things practically; so last spring he decided to respond to requests from fans around the world, and do his show at home, through the internet. He set up a webcam in his perfectly equipped kitchen, and started presenting his ingredients and talking about his menu.
He had already started a big fire in his traditional, cast iron oven and arranged all his cooking implement and ingredients on the kitchen counter. Keith was very particular about his cooking implements; he used the best knives and handcrafted wooden spatulas, special spoons and so on.As he was talking, his 4-year old daughter ran into the kitchen chasing a ball. He had asked the children to stay out of the kitchen for about an hour, while he was cooking. Keith’s older children, a teenage son and daughter, were supposed to look after their younger sister. He knew the kitchen would not be the safest place with all the knives and implements and a blazing fire in his cast iron oven. So when he saw his young daughter running in, he panicked, dropped the bottle of oil he was holding and tried to stop his daughter from getting too close to the hot oven. As he moved in her direction, he slipped on the oil, fell and hit his head on the edge of the counter. He lay still on the stone floor with blood running down the side of his head. The little girl ran out of the kitchen shrieking, but her brother and sister took no notice; they thought she was just putting on an act.
Fortunately for Keith, thousands of people all over the world saw the entire incident on the internet. Emergency operators in Texas received calls from all over the United States and Europe, reporting the incident. The emergency workers were undoubtedly confused by the number of calls they received, but thankfully, Keith was found quickly and given the medical care he required.
If it hadn’t been for the Internet, this story might not have had a happy ending. But, fortunately, today we are happy to report that Keith Larsen has fully recovered and will be launching his new show very shortly.
