Purpose
 
This policy affirms MultiSkill Centre Ltd’s belief in responsible, social and ethical behaviour from all employees and the promotion of human rights. 
Principles and Standard
 
Our employees have an obligation to the organisation, our clients and themselves to observe high standards of integrity and fair dealing. Unlawful and unethical behaviours or business practices that undermine internal and external stakeholders trust and are not acceptable.  
Policy
 
Applies to all employees and participants and provides the framework of principles for conducting business dealing with other employees, clients, customers and suppliers. 
 
      • Be considerate and respectful
      • Exercise fairness, equality, courtesy, consideration and sensitivity in dealing with other employees, participants, clients, suppliers and other stakeholders
      • Avoid apparent conflict of interests
      • Perform duties with skill, honesty, care and diligence 
      • Abide by policies
      • Under no circumstances may employees offer or accept money outside the normal organisational practices
      • Never participate in or facilitate, any fraudulent activities including but not limited to   
        • undercharging or providing excess change to cafe customers that are friends or family
        • miscounting or claiming containers under your own or another person's scheme ID 
        • taking company supplies, tools, food or other goods home for personal use

Dress Code
 
Employees are required to wear clothing appropriate for their role and work activities. Staff employees are required to wear a lanyard to identify themselves. All persons must comply with personal protective equipment (PPE) relevant to their tasks, including participants and contractors.
 
Office
  • Modest casual business attire.
 
Cafe
  • Slip-resistant closed in shoes
  • Neat clean/long hair must be tied back for hygiene purposes
  • Apron to be worn whilst undertaking kitchen or waitress duties
  • Neat clean finger nails are required
 
Construction/ Grounds / Recycling
  • Long sleeve Hi Vis shirts, with long or short Workwear jeans or cargo style pants
  • Steel cap boots if you have a pair is ideal, and required for some tasks
  • Disposable ear plugs and safety glasses are provided for required tasks
  • Broad brim hat is recommended for outdoor work.

 

Socially acceptable hygiene is required of everyone.

Conflict of Interest 
 
Conflict of interest arises whenever the personal, professional or business interests of an employee are potentially at odds with the best interests of MultiSkill Centre Ltd.
If an employee is in doubt if a conflict exists, they should raise the matter with their manager. 
 
Engaging in other business interests during work hours may result in disciplinary action.  

Smoking

MultiSkill Centre Ltd has a non-smoking policy. Smoking is not permitted on MultiSkill Centre Ltd property or in offices at any time, except for in the designated area. Smoking must not occur at the entrance to MultiSkill Centre Ltd offices.

Employees that need to take smoking breaks should do so in their lunch break or 10-minute tea break if relevant to their shift length. Excessive smoking breaks will be regarded as absenteeism and performance improvement action may be taken.

Assistance can be arranged for inclusion in a quit smoking program.

Alcohol and Drugs

MultiSkill Centre Ltd is concerned by factors affecting an employee or participants ability to safely and effectively undertake work or learning to a satisfactory standard. Alcohol and other drug use, abuse or addiction can impair short-term or long-term performance and is an occupational health and safety risk.
 
Multiskill Centre Ltd has zero-tolerance policy in regard to the use of illicit drugs.
 
Attending at Multiskill Centre for work or program participation under the influence of alcohol is also not permitted.
Cleaning and Pride in our Centre 
 
it is expected that our work areas are tidy and clean at the end of each day.
Multiskill Centre Ltd has a very high expectation of standards of cleanliness, health, safety and hygiene; this is a part of your work requirement. Specific expectations for each work area is found in separate policies.   

Non-Compliance

Disregard to any elements of the Code of Conduct or non-compliance with this policy may result in disciplinary action.

True or False. Is it ok to not shower, washed soiled clothes or apply deodorant as you are employed in Cloncurry and everyone gets hot and sometimes sweaty there?

False. Its important that staff set personal hygiene standards for the participants, appear professional when dealing with any clients/ customers and for the sake of others in the Centre. Body odor can be offensive or seem unprofessional to some people. Sometimes we need to tactfully broach this subject as part of our work. The centre provides doedorant and hygiene wipes if required by anyone.
What should you do if you think your personal interests or that of a friend or family member conflicts with the centres purpose or activities?
Raise the matter with their manager
Ignore it and keep going about your job
Is it ok to spend a short amount of time – say 2 or 3 minutes, about 3 or 4 times a day responding to comments on your business facebook account where you sell handmade necklaces?
Yes. As long as you do it quicky and don't get caught by your manager
No. You may spend your lunch break how to wish but at all other times you must not be engaging in other business interests whilst at work/ being paid to be working, by MultiSkill Centre
True or False. If you normally smoke 10 or more cigarettes a day, its ok to take at least 5 ciggy breaks whilst at work?
No. Cigarette breaks are never permitted. You may choose to have a cigarette during your 10 minute break (applicable to shifts more than 5 hours in length) or in your lunch break if you choose to in the designated area. Just because you smoke, doesn’t mean you have the right to take additional breaks.
Yes. If you are a smoker, you have the right to take as many smoke breaks as you like.
What does a zero-tolerance policy mean in regards to drugs and alcohol at the centre?
You can be under the influence of drugs and alcohol at work, as long as you can competently perform your work duties
None are acceptable whilst at work, or performing work duties.
When is tidying and cleaning done at Multiskill Centre?
All the time.
Keep the centre as tidy as possible but ensure its back to a clean standard at the end of each day.
Most days, but if the centre gets particularly busy, at least every week cleaning must happen.
